Taking so long to get my X5 - starting to get the itch for the MDX !!!

Hello To all,

It is taking so d!m long to get the X5...ordered in May....

Starting to look into the MDX, would have never even considered the 2006 model BUT, all the mags rate this one at or above the X5 level...I am spesifically talking about handling.

It seems like Honda went after BMW big time with the new MDX they even tested the car on the Nurburgring.

Plus I would end up saving about $10k.

Can some of you please put me back on the X5 trail....or would some of yougo for the new MDX if you did not already get your E70 X5 3.si as I know the 4.8 is a beast but thats another $10k.....

In any case may I have some of your view's...by the way just read the BMW Roundel Mag...and even they rate the MDX higher then the X5

Thank you.

many of us contiplated the mdx vs the x5 thing, and I was really really on the fence. if your comparing base model x5 to the loaded model mdx, I would go with the mdx, but if you want to spend extra money and get the features on the X that are not available on the mdx then dont change your mind.
there is another post on here of a member who has a x5 and wife jsut got the new mdx, and that is basically what he said, the mdx cannot compare to the x5. but 20k difference is huge, but was worht it to me, jsut dont tell my wife.
btw, the front of the mdx looks horrible, really horrible.
hope that helps some.

Depends on the features you have ordered on the 3.0si. Big ticket items like ARS, ventilated seats, sport package are worth the premium over a MDX. However if you have a pretty much base X5, like just adding heated seats, premium package.........the MDX may be the better deal. I can't stand the MDX's front end and the interior is kinda ugly. But its hard to argue for the performance and value the MDX now offers.

What's the MDX safety record? You may want to consider this.

I had an '01 MDX for 6 months. I hated it. It drove huge. It was not nimble. It's handling sucked. It was a challenge to park. Enough said.

It's a matter of personal choice and even financial to make these hard decisions. I'm still waiting delivery on my E70. The dealer screwed up my first order. My original E70 order actually came last month without the 3rd row seat, which I really need having 2 kids. I placed a new order and expected delivery is September. I was really @#$ as hell but I will wait it out and stick to the E70. I've gotten good lease offers for RR Sport and MBZ GL450 but decided that the X5 is still the best choice, having driven an E53 for the last 3 years. The MDX is a very reliable car. It looks ugly, IMO, cosmetic wise. But it doesn't do justice to even compare it to the E70. The MDX is still a Honda to me and if I want a Honda to save money, I would get a fully loaded Pilot. It seats 7, very reliable and looks better than the MDX. The E70 and MDX may be considered in the same class according to industry standards but driving a BMW E70 totally bumps you up to a higher and better class of it's own.

I'm still waiting, I hope you do to. But at the end, it all comes down to your personal preference. Good luck!

Earlier this year, I was in a similar situation deciding between the two cars. My decision to get the X5 was a personal one and at the end I decided on a 4.8i with options not available on the MDX. When I did a lease quote on the MDX, it came out to $825 fully loaded with the Tech and Sports packages. That is the same as the 3.0 fully loaded in my area, so the $10k savings was not really a factor when doing a lease.

In all honestly, I can't really say that I'm so convinced the BMW is that much better. It really depends if the options you want are not available on the MDX. If so, then its a clear decision and I'd wait.

Have you had a chance to test drive the MDX and what were your thoughts?

I drove the MDX for 3 days as I was given one of their demo cars to take home and I must say its a great SUV for the money. At the end of the day, I could get over a couple of things. The bluetooth on the Acura's are very finicky and you must use one of the approved phones to get the phone book to work. The dash is extremely cluttered with buttons and while I certainly could get used to it, it made my head spin just looking at it.

We seriously looked at the MDX with the X5, since we have had 2 Odysseys and my Mother in Law had an 03 MDX, all of which were good vehicles. That said, as much as my wife liked the interior on the MDX (not the fake black wood, but the styling of the center console, etc.) the driving dynamics were just too close to the Van we currently have. The BMW just has a feel, from the shut of the doors, to the shift of the transmission to the feel of the steering, that Acura has yet to capture. Even though the price of admission was much higher, I have no regrets so far with the decision to go with the 4.8i. I say drive both (extensively, highway, town, rough roads, etc.) and make your decision based on that experience.

It's in the same league, but maybe if you're willing to spend 65-70k...you're going to be able to put a lot more in the X.

Multiple mags, including Roundel, have placed the MDX above the X5 in all characteristics. Comes down to personal taste.
