I have not been able to go by Artist / Album.. I've just got play lists on mine, but then it could be user error.

Thanks for your reply. The playlist-based system is also described in the iPodYourBMW owner's manual which I found on the front page, but the audio system represented in the manual is that of the older X5 (?). Are you able to see track names though ?

We're using playlists, and we can see the track titles...DH is the iPod expert, and I don't think he's tried scrolling through the album/artist index yet. He's got tons of music on his iPod, and playlists are easier.

Thanks. At least you can see the track names, which is nice.

Question

i had the BMW iPod adapter kit installed in my E60 M5 and it was a horrible, total disaster. I had it removed and kept my 6 CD changer.

is the iPod kit on the new X5 the same or a revised version? also what is this USB thing everyone is talking about? is it a part of the iPod kit on the X5?

thanks!

I receive my car on Friday, so have not seen the Ipod/USB adapter yet. But it is supposed to let other types of MP3/music players plug-in. If these other types of music players playlists, albums etc. show up correctly in the IDrive, nobody knows. All new stuff just come out. I wish BMW would give a list of compatible music players that will work correctly with the IDrive display, similar to what they do with bluetooth phones. Then we would know what we can go out and buy. Maybe some of us do not want to buy an Ipod!!

Hey James,

that's cool. Not that I am super knowledgeable on alternative MP3 players. That list looks like a bunch that I am not familiar with. Are they Ozzy models. I think in the USA some of the big MP3 players are Zune (yuk), Creative Zen, IRiver Clix, SanDisk Sansa, Archos 604, Toshiba Gigabeat. At least I think these are all the current major players.
