My exprience has been ... go with OEM wheels or reputable tuners (for example Ac Schnitzer, Hartge, Hamman) and pick the color you want to go for but don't get any paintjobs done afterwards.

As far as the color is concerned: black is nice but looks very agressive. If you go for black you would want a chrome lip as this makes the wheel look bigger. I was about to order the 21" black OEM wheels (see picture) but decided not to do it. The main reason was because my wife didn't like it that much (and the X5 will be her car) but also because it makes the wheels look small (even in 21"). The Ferric Grey (what we ordered) does provide a sporty look but is not as agressive.

Just my idea. Bottom line is: colors and rims are a matter of personal taste but before you go spend money it is certainly worth thinking twice and seeing the wheel in real life in the color you are considering.

Best of luck and post some pictures of the end result ...
Looks good! How'd you get your taillights darker? If anybody else has the dark wheels, please post!

Sent you a PM with more info on the Ferric Grey wheels. Here is another close up shot of the black wheels in an effort to try and help you with your choice

I do not think they are darker, I think it's the lighting.
