Car seat on third row seats?

Has anyone put car seat (Forward facing) on the third row seats? I was wondering if it is possible to do that since the thrid row seating is much smaller and i don't know if it is legal and safe to do that in US?
I have two kids and thinking to have 1 car seat on second row and 1 car seat on third row.

Thanks.
Mugen

I don't think you could but go you could go do a dealer and make an attempt.

It has been done, but a booster would be a much better bet, since it's hard to get children buckled in back there unless you are going to get in there with them. Children in booster seats are normally capable of buckling in themselves.

As long as they are small.....yes. I have regularly carried two car seats + 1 adult in the second row. You wouldn't want to do it for more than an hour though. Bear in mind though that I do come from a stumpyish family - everyone in my family is a bit on the short side!

I have a Britax convertible front facing car seat and I tried it in the 3rd row seat at the dealership. It is very secured considering the Britax is on the bulky side. It's just hard to buckle my 15 month old back there since the space and access is limited. My only concern is safety. Whatever other people might say, i still believe that the safest place for kids who still uses a car seat is in the 2nd row. Actually, most car seat manufacturers recommends the same thing.

I completely agree (as long as you do not forget they are back there and leave them in the car all day, those almost weekly stories on CNN break my heart). That said, the X5 has exceeded a rear collision standard (I would have to look it up in my press kit release to give you specfics) that did make me feel better about putting someone in the third row.
