My X5's wiper makes squeak
Since I got my X5, I have experienced 2 typhoons. During typhoone, it rains very hard. My X5's wiper now start to make squeak whenever it is at the position to change moving direction (up to down, or down to up). My car is just 3 weeks old and I am not sure if this is defect. My wife complains the noise and her TOYOTA doesn't have such a problem even the car is about 1/8 in purchasing. (So embarrased, right?) Does any of you have similar experience? How to solve this by myself? Or you will suggest me to send her back to delaer for fix? |

Is it the the wiper rubber making noise or the actual motor mechanism? If it is the rubber replace the blade or try cleaning the rubber with isopropyl alcohol. If it is the motor take it to the dealer. Not much else you can do.

Thank you very much, guys.
The noise is from the rubber not the motor. What I can't accept is this is just a 3-week old car, the windshield is not supposed to request deep cleaning. I did buy many cleaning stuffs from the shop and clean the windshield plus wiper blades though. Still, the squeak remains. I called the dealer today and they want to adjust the "tension of the spring of the wiper arms". I am not sure if this gonna work. My wife's TOYOTA is 2 years old and still using the original wiper blades. Everything is fine.

On our '01, I had the tension of the wiper adjusted twice; it
solved the problem for a long, long time. The longish wiper blade length doesn't help the situ on the Xs,imo. But, let dlr do adjustment and ask for a new blade from them, which should be covered for free. It should solve the squeak for awhile. It isn't a Toyota, ;>) Good Luck, mD

yeah get it adjusted, its prolly the wiper arm (not the wiper blades it self) being twisted a bit out of the normal angle so that the rubber on the blades are not making contact to the windshield at the right angle IMHO.

I'm with Denalio on the rubbing alcohol. Getting it adjusted won't hurt of course.

I had this problem on my 04 E53. There was a problem with the allignment of the entire wiper arm. The dealer ended up replacing the whole thing.

My dealer solves the problem today. (I hope it is permantly.)
They clean my windshield with cleaning powder. Though I don't think my 3-weeks old car needs such a cleaning, but the squeak disappear finally. I am curious about the cleaning powder, what it is? |
