Unhappy New 08 X5 Inauspicious Beginning

My new 2008 X5 4.8 that ordered in September arrived and was delivered to me today. I was anxious to get to know my long-awaited, and treasured, SAV and add to the 1.2 miles on the vehicle. I got 1 block from the dealership when the brakes grabbed and a warning came on indicating a failure of the brakes and DSC system and to seek service immediately. I returned and was told it was just a glitch of the car being new and, with the warning gone, left the dealership again. This time 2 blocks were achieved when the same thing repeated itself, and now tonight my brand new, 1.5 mile X5 is in the dealership awaiting service.

Not exactly the start one would expect from a $70K vehicle!!

This is a bit unusual. I wouldn't worry about all E70's. They actually run these things up to 70MPH inside on rollers to test for vibration, then soak in water to test for leaks, then drive it around the BMW backyard test track to test steering, suspension, etc... That's where your 1.2 miles come from.

Should just be a glitch that the computer will tell 'em about right away. You just got your first glitch out of the way real quickly...

See if the dealer will comp you some floor mats or something...

Yes I remain optimistic about my purchase as I spent a lot of time comparing the various competitors and reading all of the blog comments before plunging in. Have a 96 740iL that has been a dream with almost NO problems (other than self-inflicted) through the years. Will let you know what the diagnosis is!

mmmm....thats weird i thought they would get most of the gitches by the 08's
i guess it depends on the individual car, i ve had my e70 for 5 months now, taken it on a few over night road trips and still not a single problem yet, even with 20,000kms

well best of luck with your new car

No auto hold wasnt activited. Weird that problem initially went away when car was turned off completely and then restarted. But as soon as I began driving the car shook and the warning came on. Mgr thought is was a software issue, but I should know today.
