Factory delivery program

I don't see much chatter on this forum about the factory delivery program. I bought my first X5 and took delivery in Spartanburg (2001). It was a blast. The one I just bought was aquired at auction so I didn't get that oppertunity. It used to be the same delivery charge whether or not you picked it up at the dealer or at the factory. The only cost was getting to Spartanburg. They picked up the hotel and meals, gave a factory tour, and then spent the afternoon with us on the off-road track. There were only 2 other people picking up cars the day we went, so we also spent some time on the regular track, slick track, and the track they use for sedans (using their factory vehicles of course). I would highly recommend this experience to anyone buying a new X5. Thoughts?

The only sure things for me is 3.0sd and factory delivery. Color, options and everything else is still open.

Sounds like a good experience. I think I will look into it! You mentioned it's the same delivery charge, which I think is not justifyiable - especially if the dealer does not have to pay any delivery charges. I would think you get to pick it up at least a week sooner than taking delivery at the dealer. I wonder how it works for Canadian orders. Is it like Euro delivery, where you personally take delivery but the vehicle is still shipped to your dealer? I would still do it just to see the plant etc. I took the tour to Munich and the BMW museum there and it was great!

BMW X5s are now manufactured in Ohio. This Euro delivery option is no longer an option.

It is not like the Euro. You have to drive it home....but that's half the fun! It's especially fun if you live north of Spartanburg SC and get to travel up the Blue Ridge Parkway. West would be pretty good too, through Ashville and the mountains to the west.

i believe you are thinking of the x4. they makes that one in Ohio.

i wanted to do the factory delivery but needed to take delivery prior to year-end. as i understand it, anyone can go thru the process after delivery if they are willing to pay for it.
