I locked myself outside but my key is inside

What a damn thing happened to me.

On last Saturday, I took my family to the country side for outdoor activity. When we were about to leave, I used my remote control to open only the rear hatch. While busying loading our stuffs, my cell phone rang, so I put my remote on the cargo mat. When I finished loading, I just slam down the hatch. All of sudden, I found my remote was still in the
car~~~~and I did not unlock the other door ~~~~.

I called to BMW service and tried to find a solution, they said I have only 2 solution: 1. Try to get home and take my spare key. 2. Break the window.

I was about 100 km (65 mile) from home and in the wild area, but I did not want to break my expensive window either.

Finally, I called one of my friend to pick us up and went home to get the spare remot at home.

All my previous cars have to unlock all the doors including the hatch, otherwise the security alarm will be panic. I think if the E70 have such a rule, then we can avoid such a embarrassment.

and they say that BMW Assist can unlock your doors remotely...

isn't that possible or is it another example of a BMW promised feature that isn't available yet???

has anyone tried using BMW Assist???

When I registred with BMW Assist, I was told that the feature is available. as well as location tracking for theft recovery.
I guess I will have to try it out in the near future just in case, also BMW number is on the bottom of the hatch, I guess I will need to program the number in my cell just in case.

I don't know whether the service works or not, but it clearly says on page 202 of the X5 manual that they can unlock the vehicle remotely.

Here is the information for US. Not sure how assist works in Taiwan.

BTW, just called, 888-333-6118, option 5 to open the doors,
few security questions, and you have to be right in front of the car and follow some simple instructions, since the car was in the garage, I imagine reception wasnt great so it took them two tries, the car was open in just over 5 minutes from the moment I placed the call.

I tried another trick and asked for the location of the car and they told me they dont have access to that information, Probably privacy laws... (everything works just as I expected)

Sorry to hear that...

It would be a different story if you have the Comfort Access.
