couldn't you have got a local garage to jimmy the lock. ?? Or a half tennis ball over the lock and thump it.???

Or has the X5 got something other than normal central locking cars.

Or can you not get down the side widow between the door with a jimmy.

The time BMW assist will not unlock doors is when you havent paid your bill and your assist have expired. untill 07 vehicles, assist was free for only one year.

I will ask when I pick up my baby next weekend...

also, if you have comfort access can't you just touch the door handle to unlock them even with the keyfob inside???

comfort access looks for the keyfob signal...whether inside or near the vehicle...then activates the door release, ignition start, etc...

good idea to test them first just in case...
My experience has been that CA does recognize whether you're in or out of the car. Out of pure curiousity, I opened the pass door, press the lock button, throw in the remote, then close door. The car beeped once and stayed like that... needless to say, I was locked out...
And I tried, CA does not allow the door unlocking when the key is inside.
Then as I was retrieving my other remote, I remembered that I gave it to my cousin for safety last time...
Called BMW Assist, and went through the security questions, and held the trunk release for 10 seconds... didn't pop, so the lady said that it should happen within the next hour... 2 minutes later it "beep beep" and unlocked driver door... end of story...

I can't open the rear hatch with the remote until I've unlocked at least the drivers door on my UK model... We also dont have remote unlock as far as I know, but the guys at Assist are very helpful.

Take one of the spare keys that come with the car, (my old E53
series contains a plastic key), wrap it in Saran Wrap, tuck it in
one of those magnetic key holders, and attach it on some reachable
flat surface way under the car. The bad guys won't find it and it
will be there for you. I check my lil' key box once a year, give the
key a gentle turn to test it and wrap it up and replace the key box.

None of this may apply to the new E70, but there must be a spare
key, (valet type), that comes with the E70s.

since they no longer offer a third spare key option in the 08 E70, you can take one of the two keyfobs with integrated keys, remove one of the keys and store it in your wallet for emergencies only...but leaving the empty keyfob in the trunk or other storage area....

this will give you another option in case you leave the primary keyfob on the seat or lose it altogether...

i believe both keyfobs have integrated, removable keys for drivers' door..

again, i'll confirm when i pick up next week...

That's what I did with my previous cars. But unfortunately, all under surface of E70 are "plastic" or at least "non-magnetic". So the magnetic
car holder does not work on this car.

I'd bet one could find a metal/magnetic accepting horizontal
surface under your car...some area that takes a real stretch
on your part, but shielded from the road wash and hard to
find by the average punqeazz car thief. I admit I haven't
climbed around under a new E70, but every car & M'cycle
I've ever owned has a "spot" available.

No biggie...I am not on a mag box/key hide crusade; I've
simply used them for the past 40 years and they have saved
my fanny several times.

I tried to find a metal or megnatic surface under my car this afternoon. I did find a place to place the megnatic key holder; however, I can not announce to public otherwise my secret key will be found and my car will be stolen.

I wrap the key holder with an air-tight bag, seal it, and attach it onto the
secret metal surface. For safty, I secure it with a water-proof tap as an
additional support.

Thank you for your information.
