this sucks.... it's a feature that was 'cool' and useful so you didn't have to look at the screen so much...

is there ANY force feedback.... do the 'clicks' change based on different menu's?

i'll have to try it when i get in my car tomorrow. i recently got the newest version of progman a few weeks ago and i think it is gone. it could have been an oversight by BMW and it may re-appear on another progman soon.

I'll give it a go at my dealership and post the request to re-enable it.
Force Feedback was indeed as many of you say a value add.
But we all seem to be in agreement that we want it back, at least selectable then through the menu's.

On those that have noticed the force feedback, was the i-drive controller the kind that had the menu and voice command buttons side by side? On the VERY early brochures for the X5, if you looked closely, you could see the menu/voice side by side behind the i-drive knob. I ask this because a friend of mine has a 328 and it is setup this way and it has the feedback. Also some of the early demos here in Germany had them side by side. This may be a limitations of the hardware and not the software itself. I like the way the feedback feels on the 328 and wondered why the X5 did not get the same setup.

No, in my demo and my own E70, the hardware setup is the same, so this is definitely a software change.
My dealership already confirmed that this has disappeared on other models as well. They suspect people didn't like it or it was confusing.
Well, for some people operating computer-like devices will always remain confusing...
They did promise to look into the reason why it was removed, so if I hear that back I will post it here.
I think the conclusion is that most of us here liked it and hate to see it removed.
