I still don't see the benefits of RFTs, I had a C-class merc as a loaner and it had a flat (on non-RFTs) and I honestly did not notice (and I'm surprised that I didn't because I had the thing up to 100+ riding essentially on the rim). Furthermore, the argument that RFTs are essential if you need to drive somewhere in an emergency is BS because you can drive on a rim, it's not a good idea but I have always been told never to stop on a freeway it's just not worth it unless you can pull off into a very safe area.

I tend to agree with SANguru on this one mainly because i believe this kind of technology has not arrived at the "i can afford it point" Perhaps the concept is a good one on the surface but the trade offs at this point don't seem to be worth the guinea pig sacrifice the tire makers have in mind for us. Hence the 2005 530i has reg tires.

also i hear that almost all wheels that have rft's on them end up being bent, while i was at a local dealership, my friend that works there told me that RFT's don't absorb the bumps on the road and the wheels usually take the beating, for this reason alot the wheels get bent.

Can you use a sealant can with RFT, to help prevent sidewall damage?. You would have the benefit of being able to stop safely within a mile and then reinflate the tyre. Also can you swap your runflats for normal tyres using original rims.

You can get some good deals from internet tyre suppliers, maybe its worth having a full set at home for your next change or in case of supply difficulties. I do think that BMW dealers should carry a stock of their RFTs if they are going to insist on them.

I hate RFT's, had 2 wheels and 3 tires replaced on my 6 series, where the wheel cracked due to the RFT's and they could not be repaired.

I don't know how some of you guys found places that would repair RFT's. Every tire shop I went to in the DC area refused to repair them for liability reasons.

Any resources that list tire shops that do repair RFTs?

Any problems with driving with 2 RFTs and 2 regular tires?

Say for instance one gets busted and you're going to make the change to regular tires over time anyway... just change the other side along with it... and eventually have all 4 as regulars.

My biggest problem with RFTs is no spare. RFTs will get you someplace safely and then what do you do?

there is ONE big advantage of run flats.... if you got a tire blow out... they should still maintain control.... otherwise, their weight is probably the overall downside...
