Not a big fan of the run flats either, replaced them on my Z4.. better handling/grip and road noise. not to mention price!
Now carry a tyre inflater kit costing £15.

BTW, the spare is only meant to "get you someplace" also, then you'd have to get a regular tire just the same. People are just complaining about the cost/hassle to replace. The advantages of RFT is that, like someone mentioned, you maintain control should there be a puncture and you don't have to get out and change it for the interim. |

> Any problems with driving with 2 RFTs and 2 regular tires?
I would expect extremely odd and perhaps dangerous handling, due to the significant difference in sidewall stiffness. |

RFT's can be repaired, as someone mentioned above. I had it done on my 6.
Having said that, I ditched my Bridgestone RFT's and got Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's on my 6. I also bought the BMW Mobility Kit to handle any incident, since my car doesn't come with a spare either. I have noticed two huge differences in getting rid of the PS2's. 1) Handling is much improved. The RFT's felt like you were riding on wagon wheels; 2) Road noise is DRAMATICALLY reduced. Those damn things were loud. Before, I couldn't use bluetooth at highway speeds because of all the road noise feedback. The PS2's are MUCH quieter. My $0.02.

Looking at tirerack's ratings for most RFTs, the noise and ride comfort are terrible, not to mention the poor treadwear. They are purely for "convenience".

I'm still running on my OEM RFTs and they arent loud at all after 18k miles. When I get new rubber in the spring, I'll probably get regular tires ONLY b/c they are cheaper.

I was skeptical as well at first but after seeing this video, I'm convinced that it is worth it.
