The X6 with its shape has no room for everyday-life practicality. I really don't like bubble cars to begin with. The styling of the X5 is way ahead on the chart plus you can actually put lots of stuff in there with the seats folded like any SUV.

I don't know if it really needs to be said but they are made for different markets/needs. I just wish they threw the X6 engine in the X5 since it's already available.

Yes, that would have been cool to have the new engine. Then the "4.8is"ers would not be able to say how much better those engines are, how much better the performance is, etc. than the E70 4.8i...

x6

Only thing I think about is the new twin turbo with more power and better fuel consumption. I'm still not sure if they put the same engine on the x5, whether I would want that x6 chasis...

x5 for me folks

a) ok x6 more powerful engine (twin turbo etc) would have got another car for that type performance...which leads on to be (b)...

b) whther its powerful or not, I am not ready for that shape....even with medium or large sized wheels, i just cant see that X5 aggressiveness, does it need pure sunlight or ultimate darkness for the X6 to look mean, so far its just not doing it.....

c) and with the pano roof....i cant get a big open view of the sky above in a x6 can i ???

but dont get me wrong, im sure when it comes out i'll like them, but defntly no regrets on picking an x5 over a "x6"

I still went ahead and put a deposit on an X5 despite knowing the X6 wasn't too far off cos the X6 looks too small to much stuff in the back

No comparison. They are different cars for different target markets and needs. Why would BMW make 2 cars for same target market? Don't know why your friend is comparing.

with all due respect LeMans, I do admire & respect what your provide for the X5 community.

and with knowing they are very diff. cars / audience / markets etc.

This is a very VALID question. I have so many people ask me this every week, people who dont even know what an X5 is, are asking me why over the new X6, (because x6 is starting to hit the media now, in time for the show in Jan)

I think that "yes" the car is diff (with all respective addons - target audience / market etc). but there is a big factor in deciding to take one over the other.... sure an X5 and say new M3 are very diff too....but for what its worth, the X6/X5 comparison - 4wd with bigger ground clearance....it does sort of fall in the same category

so yeah, just saying that I think this is a valid important question, and that even though a comparison may not add up - i think THERE IS need for the comparison, if not for education, to get an idea of how current/future "X" owners think.

Cheers

With E70 growing in size some existing or potential X5 owners(more in Europe than US) consider it as big SUV/SAV to their needs and end up buying Cayenne. These are the people BMW is targeting for X6. BMW expects to sell only 40,000 X6 per year.
I personally have an E70 than a X6 in my future as that what fits my needs.
Most of the new features of X6, including engine offerings will be coming to X5 in not so distant future.

I haven't been following that closely - will the X6 have the 3.0 TT petrol (and coming to the X5)? Can you speculate at what premium?
