IPOD Question

This may have already been discussed - looked through search but could not find so asking... for those with the 6FL option, when you have your ipod connected, does the ipod remain on even after the car is shut off (and you've left the vehicle) or does it time off?

The iPod turns off with all version except for the 6th generation iPods which has been reported on these forums. Since the X5 'pre-boots' its electronics, you will notice that it powers up the iPod after you've entered the car and before you've turned it on, however. If the car doesn't get turned on, the iPod will shut down shortly.

Thanks....also came across this post:

there is something wrong in your car. normally all systems are shut down
in a 15-30 minutes period after locking the car. even the ipod will be turned off...
is your radar detector wired to the car electric system (hard wired) ?
Yes it is as you post in the other thread. and you took power from the next suitable cable around, aha. In aviation this is called hot wired meaning when the device is on it will remain on even you shut off the rest of the systems. In your case the V1 thing blocks the shut down procedure of your car as the BMW controllers can´t shut off the detector and so the systems will stay alive (CD players included) and kill your battery !!!
Better get this "rebuildt" in your BMW shop. The bus system of the E70 is a totally new one, so you have to be very carefully when you try to bring non BMW approved stuff in.

The music breaks up, and/or I get hissing when I use my Ipod on my 07 X5 via the adapter in the console. Don't have any problems with the iPod anywhere else except in the x5. Read the manual and I don't see any iDrive settings that can be adjusted to stop this. Anyone else experience this, and if so, what's the solution?

I use my iPod in the way you describe with perfect results. Do you use the same cable elsewhere? You can also buy a cable from Amazon which used the iDock connector rather than the ear piece. This gives much better sound quality.

Ipod cable

I found the cable you refered to on Amazon and ordered it. The cable I was using was brand new, and only purchased for the x5. My headphones work fine, and the dock connecting the ipod to my home theatre works fine. I'm hoping that the dock connector is a better solution than the miniplug.

Thanks for the suggestion!

The original 6FL cable that came with the car if you ordered it, is faulty and does not turn off the IPod Classic (6th Generation Ipod) it works fine with all prior models of IPOD. However, under warranty you can get your dealer to replace the wire with the new one they provide that works perfectly with the new IPODs. The BMW part number you need to ask for is 61 12 0 440 796

The OP is referring to the Aux In connection rather than the USB connection that comes with the 6FL option.

I tried leaving the IPOD connected (5G unit) and with the ipod connector - 6FL option, it keeps the ipod in dish mode and it sounds like the CD is still spinning. This is after the car has been shutoff for about an hour. My guess is it would kill the battery if left for an extended period of time. Any ideas?

- Also checked my cable # - it is the 0 440 796. I am trying to leave the comfort access key away and will check again to see if maybe me coming close turned
it back on.

**** NEVER MIND - IT WORKS FINE....AS SOON AS YOU TOUCH THE DOOR HANDLE IT COMES ALIVE. WHEN YOU LEAVE THE VEHICLE, IT SHUTS OFF. ****
