Such a Hard Decision!
![]() ![]() Each have their own strengths and weaknesses, such a hard decision. For those of you who were also deciding between the two, what made you choose the BMW? Both BMW / LR have their mechanical faults, and both covered under superior warranties so I'm not worried about that. Interior goes to BMW, exterior to the RRS. My gf says the RRS is so much hotter so that doesn't help, I just know the drive of the BMW is far superior and the interior more comfortable especially with the comfort package. Visited both this board of course and the LR board, trying to get a feel by satisfied customers. I'm so torn I was thinking about renting both vehicles for a day each and deciding that way. Anyways, if you have an opinion other than the obvious I'd like to hear it especially from previous/current BMW 4.8 & RRS SC owners. I know everyone has their own opinion, and I should go with what I feel to be the best, the problem is i'm literally 50/50. Thanks for your input. |

Since you spend most of your time IN the car and DRIVING it, I would go with the car that satisfies your needs in both of these departments, which seems to the X5. You'll only see the exterior while you are walking to the car.

I think renting the cars is a great idea! but please make sure that the rentals have the options that you are interested in.
For example, should try an x5 with "Adaptive drive" (there is a 'sport' button below the shifter) so you can experience the full capabilities of the new X5. Also try to 'throw' them a bit around bends and corners; speed is not the issue but control is what I'd focus on. My 4.8i feels like its on rails and I can almost bet that softer suspension on the Range will tend to push the vehicle over on corners and bends. I despise that instability on bends and corners with softer suspensions. It is down right scary. In my view, the X is for drivers and the Range is for that on-looker. I have had the new X5 for about 8 months now and so far I had no mechanical problems whatsoever, and had a recall and a software upgrade all fee of charge, and just took one day. BMWs are reliable! Just take a look around, how many older Range Rovers do you see out there? I see older Bimmers all the time. Visit the E53 forum here for example, an older model X5, people are still enjoying it and still passionate about their X's. just as a side-note, Land Rover company is being sold from the parent company FORD to Tata Motors in India. It is an expensive version of the Ford Explorer (over simplifying of course) to a commoner like me. Now it's about to be owned by an unknown Indian car maker source: http://www.wheels.ca/article/32200 Ford Motor company also plans to sell its Jaguar division as well. My point is that Ford has been losing money and thus wants to sell off Jaguar and Land Rover. If either of those brands are making money, they would not have a good reason to sell them off (which is why they intend to keep the Swedish Volvo brand, which they also own). On the other hand, BMW Group is and has been independently owned and operated and has been setting record-breaking profits recently. They also own the Mini and the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars brands. Source:http://www.marketwatch.com/news/stor...FAF90FB6191%7D http://www.bmwgroup.com but really, it's up to your heart. I'd like to say that a lot of people dream about having dilemmas such as this ('My Gosh, an X5 or a Ranger Sport!' ) so however you decide, you'll be okay. ![]() Good luck. |

I test drove both before buying my X5. I also looked at boards like you are. The internet is a great way to do your background research. I think both are good vehicles and certainly both are 'hot'. Resale will likely be better with the X5. And NOTHING will drive like a BMW. The X5 feels and handles in a more car-like fashion than the RR. I felt the RR tended to oversteer on corners. Neither will be as reliable (or as boring!) as a Toyota/Lexus, so go into it with proper expectations. Good luck with your decision. You will find the members of this forum to be very knowledgeable, so keep asking questions.

You said your wife has made it difficult for you to decide... so it sounds like you don't already agree with her on the RR. Buy the X5. You want it more.
BTW, I disagree that the RR looks better on the exterior.
