Delivery timing advice

Hi folks, I've been lurking for a few months, and appreciate all the insights and information on the forum.

I'm looking for some advice about timing the delivery of the '08 4.8 I ordered in late December. My '05 330 lease expires 2/28, so I worked with my CA to try to time my order to (a) coincide delivery with this date but (b) take advantage of the Dec OLP.

Here's the timing problem - X5 is in production, scheduled to complete on 1/21, which is a couple weeks earlier than I was expecting.

I understand from searching the forum that I can have the dealer ask BMWNA to hold it in SC (Priority 4?), and I suppose that my dealer would be willing to park it on his lot for a few days - but should I be concerned about the car sitting for upwards of a month (lot rot, flat-spotting, battery issues, etc)?

Hey,

most cars that are not ordered sit at the dealers for a few months at least, so I would not worry. They will do the full check up right before your pickup anyway.

Welcome

Why don't you just take it when it comes in? Timing looks perfect to me. If production is scheduled for 1/21 plus transport time to Ohio your almost there. Your lease expires 2/28, so you'll have already made your last lease payment, turn it a few weeks early. I would.

I don't think there will be any problems. Cars shipping to europe sit on a boat for a month.

I've done this a few times myself. I guess I lost value for time that I paid for, but I got to drive my new car sooner!

Good points on how long non-ordered cars, or non-US builds, can sit before delivery. I think I'm just over-sensitive to it, after three years of unremedied 50-70 mph vibration I had in an '01 A6 that I attribute to the lot-time of the car. Of course the vibration was a well-known issue and is most likely unrelated to how long it was on the lot, but oh well.

Believe me, I'd like nothing more than to get over to the dealer and take delivery the day it's ready . . . I'm just not liking my odds that my wife will agree with my (lack of) financial logic to paying the final month's lease payment then turning it in a week later.

Thanks for your replies. I will post pics after delivery, as it seems to be one of the few non-sport package 4.8's here. Went with monaco/saddle brown - I have natural brown in my 330 now, so am looking forward to the different saddle tone.

Monaco is very dark so you need to care for it same way you would for a black car.
