"At Preparation Center"
The Owner's Circle status of my X5 4.8 is "At Preparation Center." What/where is this and how much longer until it reaches the dealer?

Owner's Circle is behind. Mine shows the same thing right now but I called the 800# and they said it got shipped out to my dealer on Friday (3 days ago). My dealer should have it within the next couple days... today was a 'holiday' so I didn't get a call-back from him.

InternetMgr is on a distinguished road
I would say it's at the VPC "Vehicle preparation center". All cars are taken off the ship and sent here. They get the chemical taken off that coats the car to keep the salt water from damaging the vehicle.

Then the car gets trucked to the dealer for PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) and then to the consumer.

Hmm confusing. You're in California, right? Are you saying the South Carolina-built X5s are waterway-shipped to your one location from the factory? You may be thinking of other BMWs that aren't built in the states.

I was led to believe the prep center is right 'next door' to the factory in SC. Then it gets trucked (aka shipped) to their dealer in the US where they take delivery.

Youre right. I was thinking of cars overseas.

The X5's are transferred by train to the VPC. This actually takes longer than by ship due to the transfer of one railway to the next.

The cars are then inspected and then trucked to the dealer.

I am in No Cal and I understand that there is a center in Oxnard (Ventura County) where all they CA Xs are shipped, inspected and then trucked to the dealers.

If you are in Boston, your dealer will have within next 2 days. Mine was in prep center on Friday (according to the OC), and the dealer got it the following Monday's morning.
