You can swap out your RFT and installed a non runflat, they will be quieter than the RFT same profile. and have a slight softer ride than RFT. Just make sure you have a backup plan in case of a flat! I hope this help
I have to get 3rd row seats, so there won't be a spare. Really interested in going with non-RFT. What is a good backup plan for this scenario?

This thread talks alot about Dunlop vs. Bridgestone RFT.
Dunlop is quieter.
Dunlop has less tread.
But how about the safety/grip between the two brands?

I've been having a constant pitched noise (bottle blowing type) when driving from 20 - 70 ish... The noise/tone would not change over different surfaces, just get louder etc.

I had upgraded to 214 rims and Conti DWS tires, after the upgrade I noticed the noise a lot more than with my 19 inch rims. I did notice it very faintly on the 19's which is why I started looking around at other possibilities, other than tire noise. Also, I got Vredestiens, had the noise, switched them to Conti DWS because my tire guy said it was the tread pattern... both tires made the noise.

After poking around, everyone has said both of my tire choices should be very quite (for the size), so I took it to the dealer, and they said it was tire noise, but later found a bolt was loose on the differential. They said they tightened and fixed the problem... But, the noise was still very much there. So I rotated the tires, checked for bad bearings and came up with nothing on my own.

I took it back to the dealer, and they finally diagnosed it as a bad rear differential.

Replacing the rear diff did nothing for the noise...

Any resolution?

My guess would have been tires wearing but you said it was there before with the 19's. Maybe bad front wheel bearing as the large tire/rim is now putting more stress on the bearing hence noise getting worse?

You can buy it most places for $20 (auto stores, Sears Auto Department, Wal-Mart, etc.)

I first thought it might be bearings, the dealer said no, both visits. The wheels are tight...

I'm at a loss, not sure if this is normal, or if I have a problem. The only way would be to swap with other rims/tires and see what happens.

Drive Train Noise

On my second set of tires - non Run Flats - Michelin Latitudes. Loud noise coming from the Drivers front. I have 59K so the second set do have 34Kish on them now. The fronts are still good rears are fairly well shot.

Noise only at 40-50 mph.

Dealer diagnosed as bad bearings in drivers front. Fixed but noise still there.

Besides replacing the tires - which I should probably do before winter anyway - the noise is driving me crazy.

It was so loud when the better half called me while she was driving it I could hear the load whining sound over the phone. She was on built speaker on the X5.
