On the MB, the auto DST function is tied to the Nav system through the GPS signals - and hence why it would also change the clock with the timezone if you were traversing from east to west or vice versa.

There is a slight annoyance issue with this system in that I cannot fine tune the clock - I'm ALWAYS late so I'd like to advance the clock in the car by a few minutes but it's not possible with this system, one can only set the time in 1/2 hour increments.
My Benz does not have nav. Never bothered me to manually change the clock on both cars. Just took a few clicks to change it on both cars. Heck, it takes longer to change the time on my microwave, coffee maker, oven and wall clocks but it was never an annoyance. Just a part of life.
