Yip, the Stealer is not wanting to forgo the vendor albeit VISA/MC/AMEX charges. I had that difficulty before too.

Cheers,

I place a built to order 08 x5 4.8 deposit on my visa. No problem with the dealership, $500 deposit. and Negot with the final price and wait 3 weeks for my x5 to arrived at the dealership. Everything was as expected. Price and pkg was correct, just signed the paper and leave.

Here's another route you could go...tell your credit card company. The servicer agreement that the dealership has with the card provider says that they cannot refuse credit card transactions for any reason other than maxed out or stolen cards. If they accept credit cards, then they MUST accept them for ALL purchases or they are in violation of their agreement. You many want to discuss this fact with the GM so that he can 'make the right call' before you do.

There is the technically correct and then there is the Real World. You really think it is wise to do business with the dealership after you have shown them that attitude? Even if you do force them to accept the credit card, how do you think they will treat you after you send the credit card company after them for violating the credit card agreement?

At best I would see a Pyrrhic victory.

My friend once did this when a rental car company refused to except his Visa on a rental car. He called Visa and the rental location lost their Visa privileges for a while.

Also, when I ordered my X5, I put the deposit on my AMEX. The dealer had NO problem with it.

I totally agree!

Makes no sense not to take your cc for a $500 deposit. Would have cost him $10 bucks in fee's.

One other thing i would note (and I think someone may have referred to this earlier)..

The dealer usually doesn't charge your credit card for the deposit. When you buy the car, they will ask you if you want to apply the deposit to the purchase. If you say yes, they charge the card, if you say no, they won't charge the card but will instead have you either apply it to you money down or if you are not financing, will add it back in to the final cost.
