The twin turbo petro engine is know to have oil temperature concerns. I suspect that when they put the twin-turbo petrol engine into the X5, the oil temperature will appear in the cluster.

Hopefully this will also apply to the X5 4.8 as well. It seems that the X5 is one of the last BMW's to still have the retarded mpg indicator (the others being the 3 sedan/wagon and 5 sedan/wagon). The 3 series coupe/convertible, all the M cars 3/5/6/Z, the X6 and the 6 series, already have oil temp gauges and no coolant temp gauge of any kind. The X3 and the Z4 seem to be the only ones with actual coolant temp gauges.

It's oil temp and not water (coolant) temp.

I stand corrected; you're right. Oil temp makes sense on turbo. I wish they had water temp. on the normally asperated X5.

I agree with your water temp desire as well, but they seem to be phasing that out altogether. Not sure just what happens when the car overheats?
