New RES system!?! Please elaborate. Any information is greatly appreciated. When will it be available? Is it a modified version of the currently sold? or is it a different package all together?

I just ordered an X5 with the RES. Since it's not built yet, would I get the new system?

Is the new system the one Invision has for the headrest mounts? Does it look better than the one older looking one shown in this thread?

It's loks eons better and is a lot more cost effective for you as well. If you contact me at the office I will go over how your can order this product through BMW and your local dealer.

Thanks for that Brad, but if anybody is interested in knowing about the new BMW RES DUAL-DVD System please let me know...

Oh and by the way... If anybody would like to see a picture of the kit, I have a copy of the new X6 accessories catalog in which the system is pictured. Email me and I can get you the catalog so you can see the kit in full color!

Thanks!

Is this new system integrated with factory audio or is it transmitted over FM?

Currently the system comes with 2 pairs of wireless headphones and it is also fitted with 2 additional wired headphone/ audio outputs on each headrest.

IMO, a headrest mounted system is better because it doesn't extend out into the backseat cabin space like the pictured system does. I know that with the system pictured above, my 3-year old, sitting in his carseat, would use the screen as a foot rest.

However, the main drawback to the headrest mounted system is that you lose the adjustable headrest "pillow" that comes with the multi-contour seats. I don't know how much of a loss that is since I've never had it, but I do wish I had it nevertheless. So neither system is perfect.
You have to use this sstem if you go for active headrests as they cant install screens nto active headrests!

All X5's and X6's now come with Active Headrests Standard in every vehicle. This is a safety feature and you cannot remove the headrests anymore. This new solution mounts and sits flush behind the headrest itself. If you have anymore questions please feel free to give me a call at the office.
