On the E46, older 5 Series, etc., the battery charged everytime you used it. There was no battery to replace.

If you read the manual for the E70, it uses a regualr battery, like other car makers use for remote lock/unlock. I'm not 100% sure, but pretty sure the E70 key fob does not charge itself.
