Active Ventilated Seats- Opinions Wanted
Did a search, but didn't find much info on the "ventilated" portion of the AVS package. Lot's of threads talking about the "active" seat portion. So here goes: I live in CA, it's warm to hot most of the time here. Rarely is it ever cold enough that I'd need heated seats. I never really go on long trips (more than 2+ hours) where I need the active seat feature. Traffic here is bad. But I've never been uncomfortable seating through at most 1 1/2 hours. I actually try to drive during off peak times so I'm able to go at a decent speed and cut the drive time to under 40 minutes. Since it does get semi-hot here (90-100 degrees in the summer), I thought the "ventilated" seats might be of use. What are current users feelings about this feature? Does it work well enough to warrant it's purchase? or is it something that you use a few times and just ignore? After reading jwhkc's 10,000 mile update, he commented "Not sure about there is much benefit to the ventilation function. It seems to be a bit weak (even at the highest setting.) Maybe it will be more effective in hot weather. I will reserve final judgment until then" For those that have experienced it in hot weather, please chime in! Thank you. |

Hi there, we have temps up to 35 degrees here in summer, wanted the ventilated seat option but with all the other options added up, it would have been really quite allot of $$. So in the summer, the moonroof is always open and I like the heat - don't even use the aircon, and for me it would have been a nice option but not a must have.
Cheers,

Is the ventilation A/C? I think I read on another post that it's only sucks in air and not blow out?

I have the ventilated seats in my Mercedes and I can tell you that they are not worth the extra $$ in my opinion. Yeah the coolness on your back feels OK during the summer but it's not an overwhelming cool down and it takes a while before you notice it.

How are the ventilated seats in the BMW's compared to Mercedes? I do agree that the Mercedes ones are kind of weak and not really worth the $$$.
Does the BMW seats ventilated the back also or is it just the bottom where one sits? |

Not correct, the ventilated seats get airflow from the AC system, they are very cool...I use mine everyday in the summer and on long road trips.
The active part is nice too, but I dont use it nearly as much. Quote:

@ X5FX: Are you 100% sure about the A/C connection of the ventilated seats???
As far as I am informed, there is NO SUCH CONNECTION but the seats only suck the air underneath the seats (which is in average a bit cooler than the rest of the inside air due to cooler temperatures go to bottom) and ventilate them through the leather pores. What underlines my idea is the point that there are ventilators in seats and backrest to push the air through, rather then a central ventilator behind the dashboard that is connected to the A/C. Unfortunately wasn't able to find some further information here on the de.bmwfans.info page nor I found my PDF-handbook :-( Maybe someone can doublecheck with owners manual handbook? However, I tested the ventilation with a 535d and was very pleased. It helped me getting less knittering in shirts and trousers and also less "wet" in the back, yet without getting a cold or muscle pain. Just my opinion, however. Regards X5_Newbie

Yeah. That's what I read/thought too. That the ventilation is just cabin air.
