I only have 4000k on my 20" (07 4.8i) and I trust that the tires are going to last me more than 25000k. The grooves are lower than your regular all seasons but treadwear rating should be high on those. I am not sure what the exact rating is. does anyone know on those Dunlop sports maxxs what the treadwear rating is? thanks

Not to distract from the last post, but my spouse has suddenly decided not to go through with the trade. Perhaps one of the only ways I can revive this is to go back to 19" tires (because of cost, wear, weather) but get a wheel that looks something like BMW's 20" 'honeycombs'.

Is this a lost cause are is there something out there that would make a difference? Or does the size of the tire also play into the perception of how balanced the X5 looks?

no. and YES. you can get the 20" after market and sell the 19" to cover the cost. I'll tell you, the 20" are worth it.

I would advise get the 20s and then get 19s (or even 20s) aftermarket. I got the 20s, will put snow tires on them this Winter and buy whatever new style is out next Spring or just put the old tires back on.

The 20s are well worth it IMO. If they had made decent looking 21s I would have gotten those.

sorry, but there's more

Okay, I am in TN and will get back to OKC late Sat AM with 5 hours to try and broker a deal with Cooper BMW.

My wife and I still are apart about wheels and tires. The closest BMW dealer to my present location (Chattanooga) has a 4.8 sport with 18" tires on a five spoke wheel. And I noticed that among their selection of X5s, that some of these 5 spoke wheels were curved in while others seemed more flat and reminded me of the OEMS on my 2004 sport.

Since I want a 2008 sport, I assume there is no 5 spoke smooth equivalent for 19" tires. I simply do not like the 7 spoke wheels and they way they are curved. I know 20" gives the X an amazing look, but I need tires that will last, can handle 15K a year and drive on a little snow in OKC, TN and NC.

Any help out there today? I know this is crossing the line by persisting in trying to find a solution that likely does not exist.

BTW, I am using a dial-up on a busy phone so cannot check back every 5 minutes.

UPDATE: I just noticed the BMW web has 19" light allow Y spoke style 211 with run flats vs 19" individual light allow style 265 I. I can't find the two styles on this slow connection, but would the 2nd one maybe be closer to what I am looking for?
Well, I can't get the BMW web to work right (likely due to slow dial-up) but under build you own, packages, then sport, it shows me the 20", does not show the 19" Y spoke (which is prob what they have in OKC), but it shows what I think are the individual 19" and it has what I would call maybe 14 wire like spokes. It reminds me of the kind of wheels I saw on a 700 series last week and when my wife saw that she like it.
So are these wheels readily available for an X5 or do they have to be special ordered? I can only save money on what I can purchase from the dealer's inventory and the Cooper web is short on details.

I have never uploaded an image and don't know if the image will display properly, but if it does then this will show the jpeg of the 14 spoke 'wire like' wheel that I found on the BMW web for the 19" sport tires.

Okay, here is the 18" tires on a five spoke that I referred to as a smooth surface rather than curved in. This particular photo is not an 08 sport, but they had these same wheels and tires on an 08 sport on their lot (in Chattanooga).
