I've seen somewhere that it will in spring 2009. It somewhat makes sense for the following reasons:
1) In the spring they will introduce the new i-drive
2) They've been talking about price increases for a while as well as rumors of introducing TT engines.
3) The 2009 X5 model is pretty much is the same as the 2008 (with the exception of the name change and the leather dashboard)
4) There has been some talks about the pricing the X5 35d closer to the 4.8 than 3.0 since the power profile for the diesel is closer to the V8 that the I6. Such pricing will ake it hard to justify the diesel if it was 3-4K more than the base 3.0. Meanwhile it would be a STEAL if it was just 1-2 more.

Putt all of this talk together; add some speculative analysis and VOILA:

Introducing the X5 diesel in at the same time as the TT engines and the new I drive will solve all of their dilemmas they might have without upsetting customers or coming across as illogical.

- It will allow them to have that pricing spike that they've been hinting about for some time. Since You consumer can't complain, you are getting a new I-drive and getting the upgraded engines.
- The diesel pricing will fit in better between the two TT engines (1-2K more than TT I6).

I’m glad I got my 2008 4.8 when I did
