High Battery Drain
It has nothing to do with the battery. Had the same problem last year and the dealer had the alternator changed. Discussed the situation with a friend who works for BMW in Munich and confirmed that some of the alternators on the X5 could be faulty and failed to charge the battery fully.
If you drive your car regularly your battery should not have the problem as the battery is designed for the full options on the X5. |

I recommend bringing your X5 to the dealer. I've had that message twice...then a few days later a complete battery drain where I couldn't start the car. I had to call Roadside Assistance both times - all they did was boost my X5. After the second incident, I brought my X5 to the dealer and they "claimed" it was due to my daily short distance driving - and so they simply replaced my battery. It's been 2 months and so far so good! (knock on wood).

The charging thing seemed fishy to me but since I have been locking the doors the problem hasn't reappeared (and I have the charger that the dealer gave me.)

I got the high battery drain warning this morning. It happened once before, after being away and the X sat for 8 days. That was 4 weeks ago. I drove her the 14 miles to work and the warning went away on the next restart..
I'll call the dealer and see what they have to say.

Had this once, daughter left the back door ajar for about two days. Someone mentioned in another thread this would make the car to be on a permanent 'stand by mode'. Meaning the car keeps doing checks to see all systems are good to go and does not make the car go to 'sleep'
Drove for about 15 minutes and message was gone at next restart. Never had it again... |

I see this roughly every 1-2 weeks for no discernible reason. I drive it around 100 km's each day to/from work and often longer drives on weekends. Lock it up the same way each time - hit the stop button, get out and press the little lock markings on the outer door handle until the lights flash signaling it's locked.

I got this message today - the only thing I did differently was remove my IPOD and put some new songs on it and a day later - the message. Do ALL OF US getting this message have the IPOD adapter? I'm wondering if the ipod was staying alive and hence charging itself throughout the night leading to the message. 5 minutes of driving and the message was gone.
