So I got the message for the first time yesterday. I did notice that the bluetooth had my phone still linked and was still counting time on a call that ended. When I shut down the car, the bluetooth was still actively paired with my phone.

I will need to take this in to the SA, but I'm guessing that's what caused it as my nav screen won't turn off unless I deactivate the bluetooth now.

any consensus emerge?

My day started with this dreaded message about high battery drain. Dealer did the transmission update on Monday along with a 13 point inspection and I leave Friday for over 4K miles. Last time I went to the dealer with this message, they told me not to worry but it is not something I want to see in the middle of a major trip.

I don't know if others got this, but when I picked up the X on Monday the trip odometer was at zero and my phone+nav presets were gone. However, everything else seems okay. When I called today they did not think the battery had actually been disconnected.

The loss of trip meter and presets are results of the programming. It looses the resetable memories like that, and the tech usually only resets the clock/date.

As for the battery drain issue, I would be curious as to what the energy diagnosis via GT1 diagnosis would say... It can't really say driving profile since it was on a high output charger while being programmed, so would have had a good charge when you got it, and a 4k mile road trip situation should mean a great charge as well. Something must have been keeping it from going to sleep or periodotically waking it up. Either way, it would be registered in energy diagnosis what the situation was. It would just be up to the tech to figure out the cause of that situation. (this is a bitch to diagnose)

Had same problem with brand new X Drive 35d. Dealer mentioned the short trips which I dismissed as ridiculous and contacted an old friend in Germany who works for BMW. He confirmed the problem was the alternator, informed the dealer who changed brand new alternator (had to be air freighted from Germany...not Spartanberg) and car now performs impeccably.

This morning on the way to work was the second time this message came up for me. The first a few months ago. When I left later in the day, no message.

I haven't seen the message since I started locking the car while it was parked in the garage.

I keep a battery maintainer on my Boxster. Of course the X5 makes that hard because the cigarette lighter cuts off with the engine.

Hmmmm, just realized I've not checked the other power outlets.

Anyway these power problems sound way to serious to fight with a battery maintainer.

I posted about an overnite battery meltdown earlier. No warning. Hope this is not the start of the series of the same!

Is this the message you guys are referring to. I just go this the other day. I noticed comfort access was not working and the clock had reset. Everything else appeared to be ok.

I'll save you the trouble. When I checked ALL the 12v outlets were dead when the engine was not running.

FWIW it would be quite easy to make the 12V outlet in the cargo bay hot all the time since it is so close to the fuse panel where most, if not all, of the empty fuse slots have 12V power all the time. But the problems reported in this thread have kept me from doing this until I have more info on whether this mod would cause the computer to go nuts and start issuing messages like the one posted by apw2607

As I posted on the other "loss of electrics" thread I'd love this mod. I'd rather have the lighter plug hot, but would settle for the rear plug.

Thanks Funf Dreisigfor for your efforts.

BMW really blew it with making the lighter plug off with the engine off. Battery maintainers are the main reason for this. I get in my Boxster, unplug the battery maintainer, and I'm on my way!!!! Duck Soup.

If some X5 Dummies leave their arc welders plugged in overnite, they deserve their dead batteries.
