Remote Close Trunk Lid?

This is a fairly common feature in SUVs, curious if Kiwijochen has addressed a hack or is there one possible without changing programming. My neighbor has a new '08 X5 (E70?) and was surprised that this isn't available. I have an e38 and e36 so thought I would check here for him.

Not available in USA X5's due to safety concerns.

BTW, there is a useful Search feature in this forum that would have found the answer for you too

Search only works when you get a hit. Lack of one doesn't mean that there isn't an answer.Strange that BMW would skip this when there are a lot of mfgrs offering in this feature in the US. For example, his Lincoln Navigator allows you to close it from the driver's seat. No need for Mom to get out when the kids get their sports equipment out. And unless they are tall enough to reach waaaay up, that's what Mom has to do.

I take it that you're not voting for the two lawyers? Must be BMW is getting soft in its old age. Letting other companies take risk on and not challenging them? Uh oh.

I'll see if Kiwijochen will take a stab at this. I'll have to get my hands on the schematics of the '08.

Merc closes remotely. BMW doesn't have it because they didn't want to bother

It's funny I walked by a Nissan Murano today with its trunk closing automatically... it was beeping the whole way down to account for "safety concerns".

Yep, those were two mentioned by my neighbor and he listed off five or six more. Perhaps others see the advantage and we can see if Kiwijochen will take a look at it. I'll spring for tracing the schematics and figuring out the "what's what" on how it will work.
