maybe I didn't put it correctly, but the reason I expressed interest in knowing as well if there is a way to turn the seat-belt chime off is because unlike other cars where the chime stops after few times, in E70 it does not stop at all. Sometimes I need to park my X5 outsite the garage to bring in groceries and later I need to move it in very slowly so as not to hit anything while going in. I know, I know, you will say to use the PDC, and I do use it, but I can't rely on it solely as my garage is kind of small and I don't want my X5 to get scratched. So I have to come out few times to make sure I've made it in successfully. Now you can see it can be a bit annoying with all the chirping going on. I agree that seat-belt is important and I do wear it whenever I drive out, but moving a car from outside the garage to inside will be an overkill if I were to wear the seat belt and unhook it everytime I need to get out to check around my car. What I was interested to know is if there is a way to have the chime stop after certain amount of time. But I gather now, it is not possible. We have the answer. Thanks all. I would not say it's not possible, just that nobody seems to know the answer. I'm going to call BMW... will report back.

I don't think there's a way to disable the seatbelt warning, and surprisingly, it's not a stupid health & safety thing unique to the US (unlike the key chime and 26 other things). Automakers get extra points in the Euro NCAP ratings to have seatbelt warnings.

OK, I understand the original question, and agree that nobody knows how to put a timer on the chime. Don't think it is possible. Personally, I would use the seatbelt even to back into the garage.
But my question is, why is it necessary to get out of the vehicle several times when backing up, given that you have large side mirrors with remote control on them, and the PDC. It just seems like major overkill. Commercial vehicle driver training here used to require getting out of the vehicle every few hundred feet when reversing, but proper use of mirrors and a single check for small children before starting to back up should be sufficient for anything like entering a garage. If you are uncomfortable with the size of the vehicle in relation to the parking space, practicing backing up into tight spaces would be less trouble than getting out all the time.

The chime stops after about 2mins. If you haven't waited that long before putting your seatbelt on then the chime has served its purpose.

Chill, dude.
Fact is, you cannot, I repeat, cannot disable that chime. At all. No BMW will do it. I'm sure there is way to do it, but BMW has instructed all dealerships not to do it. That is why I answered your question the way that I did. Aside from following some of the suggestions already put forward in this thread, there is nothing you can do. For the record, your question has been a before on this board. A simple search would have answered your question in two minutes... and saved everyone's time. Juan

Today I was at my dealer and i asked out of curiosity if the seatbelt warning noise can be disabled. The answer was yes. And that is very simple for any dealer to do it. Also he told me that if you want you can disable it only for the master key and leave it on for secondary key. So its up to you!

Just for the record. I did not ask him to do it for me. I just asked if it could be done. Therefore maybe they are indeed instructed from bmw not to do it.

Let's put an end to this. Search "silenced warning bell"
