I have 5000 miles on my 4.8i. I drive 25 miles each way to work on CT rolling hills and backroads and back and forth to NYC on occasion. My life of car mileage is 14.8 mpg. When I concentrate on driving for mpg, I can get 16.8 mpg. The car is so smooth on the highway, I can't drive less 80 mph, so I don't count my highway mpg as being realistic!

I have been averaging 15 mpg within city.
The best I have done on the HWY is 23.7mpg.

Mine when new started @ 14 mpg going to work 70% highway and 30% city with a combined mileage of 20 miles one-way. Now with more than 2,000 miles I start getting 16 mpg. I do not pace the car, but it has so much power you do not need to push really hard to go above 80 mph for example.

When I test drove the 3.0si and the 4.8i both cars had similar mileage around 5000 miles. I looked at their board computer and the 3.0si was showing around 17mpg while the 4.8 was showing 16mpg. I believe there is not much difference between the 3.0si and 4.8i in real world gas mileage, but a lot of difference in power and mainly torque. Hope it helps.

The difference(3.0 vs 4.8) is noticeable in city driving with the 3.0 showing better mileage. However, I do believe that they are quite similar on the HWY.

Over the last 5200 miles I've averaged 18.3 gallons (08, 4.8). I drive it hard and pretty fast on the freeway and on road trips. About 2/3 of my miles are highway miles. The mileage was considerably lower in the first 15K miles.

Just completed a 2,000 mile highway trip. Fully loaded with 4 passengers. Averaged 19mpg - typical speeds of 80+mph.

My daily drive of 80/20 city/hwy yields about 16mpg.

These appear to be right in line with the EPA estimates. And I don't have to work to hard to achieve them.

You guys should also consider 3rd row or not as it weighs considerably more from an everyday-driving perspective no? Especially with city driving.
