All season tires and my BMW dealer
My dealer will not put on any other tire on the 214 wheels other than the Dunlop Max. We would really like the Michelins(all season) and they are telling us that BMW will not allow it. We do not have the 3rd row and have a spare tire. Where do you guys who have other brands of tires get them and mount them? Is there a problem with taking these super wide wheels to other tire shops? |

No problems with having another reputable shop do a tire install. BMW Dealerships are generally "told" what they are allowed to put on. Just take your car to a private shop and have the tires you want put on.
The only issue you could conceivably have is if you wished to put a tire on a rim that was just too large for the rim. But odds are this will not be an issue.

You can check with Tire Rack and find an installer in your area.

oh yeah you can take it to other places.
BMW probably installs only designated tires so that they are legally protected (the manufacturer is liable and not necessarily BMW, if something goes wrong ) whereas Michelin can just say 'oh we never guaranteed compatibility with the X5 with sports pkg off-set rims blah blah blah...' just my 2 cents

I assume you are not leasing the vehicle? If it's your own vehicle, you can put whatever you want on it, and, as mentioned earlier, tirerack.com has an extensive fitment database you can access to see what really fits. They are also happy to talk to you about it over the phone.
If it is leased, then I suppose it is debatable whether or not you can put non-BMW approved tires on it. |

You can't turn it in after leasing it with non approved tires. They will make you purchase approved tires to turn it in...

I have those same tires on my 214s (Michelin Latitude all seasons). They ride fine, but there is one thing you should be aware of before purchasing - the tread width on the front tires (275/40/20) is smaller than normal and it looks a little odd.
