Nav retrofit?

Hey all,

Today we picked up an '08 3.0 as our '05 is up on lease in few weeks. This is our third X5 but unfortunatly the first without the Nav. We got too good of a deal to pass up and the vehicle has all the options we wanted other then the Nav and reverse camera. As i've seen by searching the reverse cam retrofit is available, but i haven't found anything regarding the Nav...

So, can Nav be retrofitted? If so, if you guys can point me to some links or give me info, it'd be much appreciated.

Alex

There appears to be a Retrofit kit available. See here

Ah excellent! Thank you for the info Pete.

I'm a little surprised though, with a lack of responses on this topic, nav retrofit is usualy a pretty popular subject, but i guess not with e70...

does that kit include the wider screen since non-NAV E70s have the narrower idrive screen...

The only Nav retrofit info I've seen is over on E90post.com. Somebody put a full iDrive dash with Nav into his 2006 E90. It was an extremely involved (i.e. expensive) project but seems to have been successful. I'd imagine an install on an E70 might be a bit easier since the dash does not need to be replaced. However, the car will still need a new screen and programming. I don't think those types of extensive mods are all that common on the E70 however.

Just found that... thats pretty amazing job that guy did. Retrofit for e70 should be much more simpler, i just need to start somewhere. Unfortunatly i've been away from a BMW world for several years now, pretty much doing nothing but Audi work, so i'm a little lost especially that this e70 is whole new animal comparing to my old e39 540 and both old e53's...

I guess the first and the most imprtant question here, will the current harness i have work or will i need a new one. Also, will the current antenna support GPS or will i need to replace.

Then for the parts, so far i know for sure that i need: 1. A new screen and 2. A new head unit with nav DVD slot. Also, i suppose i will need an actual nav module. That pretty much all i know thus far...

Just having a tough time figuring out where to look, where to start (dealer is useless btw)...
