Where did you buy the aftermarket tips? Do you have a pic? Are yours just tips or the entire extension as is shown in the above link? How easy was it to remove old tips from 3.0? |

To "punch out" the "plugs" that are in the bumper of the 3,0 is VERY easy. They are held with the plastic clips, and they are easy to pop. The "plugs" are not reusable. At least this was my experience. Once removed from the bumper, they went into the trash. The bumper does not have to be removed from the vehicle.
The chrome tips that the stock 3,0 has, are easily removed from the exhaust pipe. They are held on the pipe by four metal tensioners. All I did is put a ratchet extension at the edge (from behind), and tapped it off. They did not get damaged, and can be reused. Once the chrome was off, I cut the pipe as close to the bumper, as physically possible, without touching the bumper (the whole area was covered with several layers of masking tape, just in case). Once the pipes were as short as possible, I slipped on the aftermarket dual tips, and tightened the bolts supplied with the tips. If you crouch down, you can see the bolts, and that was bothering me. Now I ordered the factory retrofit tips (as shown in this thread), and I will install them the same day I get them! The existing pipes have to be cut appx. (I will know exactly how much, once I receive the tips!) 1,5- 2 inch from the muffler (before they start to curve!), the new tips come installed on the piece of the curved pipe, with the flare at the end. The flare is the clamp, and once you position them right, you just tighten the clamp with one screw (provided). The difference is that this clamp and the screw CAN NOT be seen, unless you crawl under the car. The replacement pipe with the tips is such a tight fit, that a nice bead of weld can be laid there, and have them installed permanently. I will install them with the clamp, and drive the car to the muffler shop, and have them welded. There is another (small) issue. Once the plugs in the bumper are punched out, and the new oval tips are installed, there is some bright and shiny thermal wrap around the muffler visible if you look straight at the tips, crouching down (on the brand new vehicle, which mine is). Once I punched the plugs out, I used a can of rubberized undercoating, and shot the whole area with a nice layer of this flat black coating. When the chrome tips are installed, they are bright and shiny against the black bumper, and the blackened insides, and that made a difference. On the V8 the only thing visible is the back side of the mufflers, and they are not shiny. I am happy with the aftermarket (Schnitzer, got them in Germany) chrome tips, but the visible bolts were annoying me. I took it to the muffler shop, and they told me that they can not weld these on, because it's too close to the plastic bumper. (makes sense) I was told to take it to the body shop to remove the bumper, and bring it back for welding, and while I was contemplating this, and the costs involved, I ran into this thread, and turned the "whole" Europe upside down looking for these retrofit tips (I shopped in England, Sweden, Germany and Croatia!!). Had them on order in Germany (Munich - used to live there for few years), when my dealer friend called to tell me that he CAN get them here in AZ. I was quoted 85GPB in England, 120 Euro in Germany, 225USD in Sweden, and 250USD in Croatia, per side, plus shipping. Got them for 165USD per side shipped here in the old US! And that's the whole story. |

Hi Guy's
Had mine installed on friday by the dealer, they only charged me 1/2 hour fitting time, However when i picked it up friday something did not look right, one looked like it stuck a bit more out than the other, because the service dept had closed when i collected the car i decided to take the car and have a look myself on saturday. As with Danielsand post, they are fairly straight forward to I guess install and adjust... The left hand tip did stick out about 5mm more than the other, i just released the clamp were the two pipes joined and adjusted....What do they say "The Devil is in the Detail"... I guess the guy who put them on must have been looking through one eye.. Thanks for the tip Danielsand I will spray the thermal wrap also... Carl996 |

The heat shield (thermal wrap, or whatever one wants to call it), can also be cut and folded away from the view. There is plenty there that's not needed, and was left there "just in case". Rubberized coating does the trick though. Once everything is black back there, the chrome tips attract your focus, and you can't see what's behind. |

Just called my dealer with those numbers. Said 2-4 business days for delivery once ordered. Talked w the service dept. and they said 1/2 hour
($65.00) to install. I will be ordering these come March. Cool upgrade. Thanks for the posts! Love this board! |

There is something amiss with your dealer! There is no way they can deliver in 2-3 days. This part is NOT available in the US, and they have to order it from Germany. It takes TEN business days to come from Germany, and clear the customs.
I think they are overly optimistic. |
