Looks like a "fun" DIY and not super difficult now that you've explained in nice detail. I plan on having dealer install at $65 they quoted me, its a deal. I don't have anything to cut pipe with. Last edited by SapphireBlackX5; 02-16-2009 at 06:42 PM. |

What would look even better would be if you could source the plastic inserts that surround the 4.8i pipes instead of painting things black. It looks good now but would look great if you could find these. Surely they exist? Can anyone find them or at least a part number?

Thermal wrap is not visible on V8 (just barely if you look for it). |

Danielsand: Sorry but I think you will find the E70 X5 doesn't have a model with twin mufflers that go through the bumper UNLESS it's an M SPORT. The twin mufflers I have seen ONLY go under the bumper.
E53 Models prior to the E70 go through in twin but not 2007 onwards. My point was that the gap looks WAY too big to be standard and under no circumstances would BMW finish their cars so that you could see the thermal wrap and they wouldn't make it shorter either as things would surely melt. Also, I've looked and the bumper is the same on all models apart from the M sport. Surely there must be some kind of clip that goes round the V8 exhaust? If you watch the opening seconds of this video you'll see the stock 4.8i muffler/exhaust. If I'm not mistaken, the muffler itself looks identical in placement to the 3.0si.
