In case any E70 owner ever thought that their X5 was not over the top with fancy electronics in areas were they are not really needed...

"With the release of ISTA D2.18.0, glove compartment diagnosis and repair suggestions have been integrated into the diagnostic system.

Perform a "Vehicle Test" and troubleshoot any relevant fault codes. In order to access fault symptom troubleshooting, follow the path below:...."

In other words, if you take your E70 into the dealer with a glove compartment that won't stay closed, the repair tech will hook your E70 up to their computer to diagnose the problem!

OBTW you better hope the tech does not find a fault code stored in your E70's system that translates into "My driver treats me too rough.". Or you may be looking at a restraining order, or restricted visitation rights -- again

p.s. Thanks X5 Meister for the post.

anyone know when that " release of ISTA D2.18.0" made it out there? I assume that's a firmware version.

I'm attaching the DRIVER'S SIDE ONLY sunshade diagnostic procedure and schematic to this message, an SIB was issued not that long ago. Please make sure you know what you are doing, because if applied to the passenger side then BMW will NOT cover the subsequent repair under warranty, which amazingly involves dismantling the trunk, dropping the transfer case and removing the passenger rear reading light bulb while having the car connected to the diagnostic computer live at all times.
