I was confused with active steering. You can't order active steering on the diesel X5 in the U.S.

I wish I'd found this forum and this thread before I ordered my X5. I would have paid for the Active Steering. That's my only complaint with the X5, it's a pain to maneuver in a parking lot.

I agree with jacksonian's response. If i had know I would have also paid for Active Steering. Makes parking alot easier. I suggest going to dealer and driving one with and without this option. My vote goes for Active Steering!

If the dealer does not have an X5 with active steering on the lot, try an X6 with and with out. As said you do not have to take it far - just the dealer's lot and you will feel the difference. My local dealer only special orders active steering so when I ordered it it was a leap of faith - glad I did

those two options are a must IMHO. Had a 530 before and was afraid of X5 handling but with those options it is very nice. The active steering is sharp, much more precise than a 5er without it. Adaptive drive and its sports mode is great as well so far I can tell I manage the same curves under the same speed as with the 5er.

IMO Active Steering in a car isn't worth the extra cash...but it's great to have in a 4,900 pound X5. Parking and low-speed maneuvering is a breeze.

Speaking of parking...I ordered Park Distance Control as a stand-alone option and it's saved me from many dents and dings. Highly recommended.

Yep, I like PDC a lot better than the camera, so I just turned the camera off.
