Connecting Ipod Touch

Ive been using an ipod shuffle up until now, kinda like a usb stick. I plugged in my new ipod touch in to the usb port and got a msg saying this usb device is not supported, but it does charge it. How do I get this to work?

from what I know...just ignore it...

I was somewhat impressed that it does charge both the Iphone (Edge version) and the Iphone 3G... being that the 1st gen used a USB and the new one uses firewire standards.... How or why it it works is beyond me...

What do you mean ignore it?
It wont work no matter what?

Don't I need a Y cable?

Oh... I thought you had the y cable and that you were saying that it still worked...

I have the same message from my truck's radio (Pioneer Avic Z2) and the Iphone 3G... It works a treat with the original Iphone... It charges and plays... But with the 3G, I get this error... It doesn't charge the Iphone, but it still plays fine and why mentioned that I ignore it... The X5 charges and plays both the old USB standard of the Iphone, and the FW standard of the IPhone 3G...

Apple switched the charging standard with the latest Touch and Iphone...(from USB to firewire)

I would think that you need the Y adapter... The adapter itself has some kind of logic built into it.. as I tried to use it on my PC to pull some pictures off my phone... But Windows couldn't find a driver for the Y adapter..

You could try one of these
http://home.swipnet.se/ridax/connector.htm?connipod.htm

But just getting the Y adapter is probably more feasible..

You cannot access the filesystem of a standard itouch via usb. The itouch differs from standard ipods by not showing up as a virtual disk when plugged into a computer or other device looking for a usb stick, such as an E70.

One way you can check this is to try the itouch and shuffle on your pc (not using itunes) and see whether the pc sees the contents as a virtual disk.

I have the i-touch and use the Y adapter. Works flawlessly. I've never seen that message.

I have one of the original versions I bought right after they came out. I updated the software at one point and it works fine.
