Wink Clock reseting --:--

I have the same issue with just the clock setting only at __-__, this winter when the temp reached -20 to -30 and and is been at that state when i start every time, there is a cold snap where i am this week.
I will call the service to inquire if this is common.
I had my X5 for a year now and this has happened once or twice in the past even on normal temperatures.
anyone out there could share a solution would be appreciated

I previously posted about the clock reset issue. but ended up with the E53 forum
IT happent to me again and gave me a warning message and I think this could be the source of the the lock reseting.
I starting that there was a battery surge and I think it is because I was using a few accessories at the same time. front seats heating (2), steering wheel heat and probable radio and lights before completely turning off the vehicle, maybe because shuting ift of after a minute when I got off the X5 and locking it to shut off.
I have tried to use less or shutting them down before I turn off the engine and I have not replicate so far.
I hope this would be a good tip but I still think that BMW should address this matter.

hello,
I had the exact same issue, and I had the check engine light come on and go off by itself. Went in to talk to the service rep, and here is what fixed the problem.

Unplug everything that is connected to the idrive- phone, iPod any cigarette lighter connected devices. Pop the navi DVD out. Drive the car for a good bit and let it sit (Park, lock it down). Change the battery on your key fob as well (if you have Comfort Access). iDrive will respond by resetting its basic settings and things should go back to normal.

Good luck.

Hi y5choi,

Thanks for the tip.
I actuallay realize that I have an Ipod attached to the front lighter socket and a phone charger attached on the glovebox socket.
That may be a possible thing that would cause the problem and could share it with everyone. I am unpluging them and see what happens.

You can try reset the i-drive. Just push the volume button the eject button on the CD drive at the same time. Hold for 10 seconds. i-Drive will re-boot.

thankx for the tip apw2607.
? will it reset all settings ( phone speed dial, etc ) If I do this ?

? for y5choi.
I do have comfort access on my X5 and sometimes one of door (rear right passenger) malfunctions then would fucntion the next time I try it on another day.
Maybe its irratic in this cold weather.
I also encountered my adaptive headlight to malfunction when I started one cold day and it functioned the next time I started the car.

Just wondering if BMW cant take this Canadian weather

it should be fine in cold weather- if you have snow or ice on the handle (water), that can cause the door to act erratically. About the adaptive headlights, would you be able to describe exactly what happened?

Hi y5choi,
I will keep you posted when this door acts up but I hardly use that door.
It will probably go way when it gets warmer. If its broken I ll just have to bring it to the dealer (warranty)

In regards to adaptive, one cold morning when i started the X5 it gave me a
!!warning!! that ! ADPT Head malfunctioned ! and to !! bring to service !!.
Still drove off with it anys cus I had to go. When I got to my destination, I turn off the the X5 and turned it on again to see if the warning was still there and it went away.
I figure it probably warmed up the assembly and was fine till then.

Thanks for your description, I think there might be an electrical problem, and you should definitely try resetting the idrive as indicated by 'apw2607' in the above post. I have tried it but seems like it might work! good luck with your X.

I think of it as a roboot- like restarting a computer. Just restarts the iDrive software to load-up again and instead of it being "asleep" between drives. sometimes just doing so can stabilize the system, i find.
