I think the black plastic was left on the sides (front and rear bumper) so that the look from the black running board carries through to the front and rear when looking at it from the side. I don't mind the back as with all the crap that is thrown up from the rear tires, it provides some protection.

Ha! We don't have these in the US...had to do a Google Image search. Complete with 214s:

Seriously, I don't love the fog lights, but will be happy to live with them and get the N55 (versus the naturally aspirated 6 in the current XDrive 30). I'm also jazzed that style 214 is now an option for all models

Where might the diesel fit in on this wheel chart?

Anyone follow the "ECE model codes?"

Clearly 337 must refer to the M sport package since we know wheel style 223M and 333M go with that package...but what is ECE model code 330? Maybe the wheels for the other, non-M sports activity package?

Unclear to me from this chart which we might expect to see on the diesel.

Also, while on the subject of the diesel has anyone seen any hint as to whether the M sport package might finally be an option on the diesel in north america? European photos obvioulsy dont tell us much I guess. Seems to me if >30% of X5's sold in NA are diesels lately BMW might do well to include all the option packages.

Not heard anything officially but they are offering M-sport pack starting 2011 on 335d so hopefully X5 diesel will also get it.

So - I'm a bit concerned about the lower roof rack rails on the M package - do you guys think I'm correct in my concern that my exisiting Snow Board rails won't work on that?

Or.. will the size of the rails remain unchanged, just lower to the roof line? Either way, it seems like with them being lower, it will be harder to put snowboards upside down, so as to be able to carry 4 total snowboards...

looking at the front bumper, it seems that it has been redesigned to allow for easier crash repair (check the join across the middle).
