A good Deal?

Hi

Long time reader, rarely have posted. I am planning to upgrade from a 2005 4.8is to a 2009 E70 4.8. I have negotiated the following

Sticker is 71,800 (premium, third row, climate, sport, 20in. wheels, etc0.

Offer is 67300 which stealer says is 1000 over their invoice. I won't even mention what they offered on my 4.8is (hurts too much). Does anyone think I can do much better (I am in Cincinnati). Also, values for 4.8is in autotrader are all over the place. Anyone have a suggestion if I sell it myself?

And yes, I know this post is worthless without pics.

Thanks

Actually 23K. Has all options except sliding load floor. I am not worried about
dealing with my 4.8is, it is paid for and in great shape. What about the deal on the 2009?

Thanks

That's not low enough---I've gotten quotes for $63K on a $67K MSRP even though I'm going to wait probably until MY2010 since my '01 is in perfect shape and want the new iDrive and see what other engines come out. I would go to Edmunds.com and see what the invoice is.

Your dealer is not telling the truth. You can trim at least 4K more. Be persistent and adamant. Talk cash purchase, not financing through dealer's sources. If you can get an auto loan from your bank or credit union, get the approval for the max you're willing to pay for the vehicle, and slap the letter of credit on the dealer's desk. Talk to the desk manager, and know who the owners are. Sometimes owners WILL take a low offer (especially in this climate), because they have different agenda/priorities than the grunts that work for them.
Unless the owner himself turns you down, don't walk away.
Cash talks, and you have the upper hand (they have a car they need to get rid off, and they want your money!).
Don't fall "in love" with the vehicle. Walk away if the deal can not be made,....by the end of the month they WILL be calling you.
Good luck.

IMO, you're not going to get $3K under invoice. Determine what invoice actually is: here - add about $800 for the Jan 1 price increase on the base - and offer that.

I bought - and then cancelled - an order for a loaded 4.8i on 12/31 and got about $4500 off MSRP ($1500 over invoice). I learned after that I could have pushed for closer to invoice.

Yes, the economy is iffy, but the X5 is selling well in spite of that.

If I decided to re-order, I'll push for invoice.

G/L w/ your purchase and sale.

Ag,

That offer at the dealer sounds more than fair for a 2009 X5. Your getting $4,300 off the car already. That is a mini deal for the sales guy. $1000 over invoice not including the pack?

Do you know how much is in these cars?

About 6.5% gross

Remember, he still has to make sure you get a full tank of gas and floor mats. And he has to go over the vehicle with you.

What's the guys time worth to you? Will you give him or her a good CSI?

Damn, makes me want to sell only used cars.

I'm all for getting the best deal and you are getting a deal. You won't lose sleep over this one.

My review of Edmunds shows invoice is 66300. So their invoice seems accurate. I will pay cash; so financing is not an issue. IF invoice is accurate, 700 above seems fair. Will decide over weekend. Don't understand why all the car dealers are closed on Sunday.

People do have to get at least one day off per week...

Good luck with your negotiations.

In some states, such as Illinois, there is a law against them opening.

Years ago the dealers banded together and got the legislatures to pass such laws, figuring that if all the dealers were closed, it would not affect anyone's sales.
