Electrical gremlins

Picked up new X5 lastnight. Gremlins already. Supplemental restraint failure appeared. Was reset by dealer. Today, "seat calibration" , "supplemental restraint failure" and "adaptive headlight failure"

Attempted to reset seat per manual (yup, I read it). Won't work. Restraint failure is for passenger seat. Adaptive lights work when turn wheel, but light comes on. I don't normally use the auto feature.

To dealer in am.

Hope it isn't sign of things to come. The worst part is the chimes each time you start the car and you lose the clock because of the warning

Sounds like a dead battery.

If the battery doesn't have enough of a charge a lot of systems fail or go into limp home mode...

I'd be pretty pissed if I just picked up a new car yesterday and one day later I am getting warning lights. Granted sh*t happens, but i'd be just as annoyed.

I'll mention checking the battery when I drop it off tomorrow. It starts easily. I've searched the forums and it does look like a battery problem is behind a lot of the electrical issues.

Thanks.

Survey... LOL! When I picked up an Acura (brand new like 4 miles on it) they brought it to the front and sales guys goes, lets go pair your phone and walk through the features. We get in, try to start it - dead as a door nail. So, dead batteries on new vehicles is a possibility. Just drive yours and see if everything goes back to normal of over the course of driving it. Electronic modules are suppose to remain alive until 9 volts.. or something around there.

Should I just demand a new battery or let them "test" it?

With my ///M roadster it took 3 visits to the dealer before they relented and changed the battery.

However in my case it was pretty obvious, the car wouldn't hold onto a charge for more than two days and was towed to the dealer on multiple occasions...

The first time they "tested" the voltage and found that the iPod kit was drawing power when the car was off.

The second time, the power draw was normal and the car was holding a charge fine — so they claim.

The third time (perhaps due to my anger) and the fact that the car was dead again, they really didn't have much of a choice.

So, my point is, they won't replace it outright. & their test is pretty rudimentary (i.e. charge up the battery, see if it retains a charge right away). Insist they hold onto the vehicle overnight or for two days and periodically test the battery level. Keep going in and they will have to give in.

btw, ///M roadster has been perfect ever since I got the battery swapped

Could just be a low battery as opposed to a faulty one. Work with them, ask them, if they won't change it, makes sure its documented so if in the near future it does it again, you've got some ammo to go back to them with.

cold weather and sitting on the lot for a while will kill batterys, that is why all dealers have battery chargers sitting on their floor room
