You are posting on the E70 board. Anyhow to answer your question, the E53 have a notoriuos problem with the rear light assembly and/or connectors corroding. I know several people including myself that have had to replace them. You can try to take off the connectors and scraping/sanding the pins or try contact cleaner. If that doesn't work, you may need a complete new light assembly. The fact that both the tail light and blinker went out tells me it is the connectors...
