I did have issues with my E36 AC. It absolutely sucked, I think it was just designed for Germany where people start taking off clothes when the temp hits high 70s and not for the Texas weather where winters mean, high 90s E70 AC is definitely much better but my half priced Honda Accord blows better any day.
I surely played with all the settings. Went to the dealer and they confirmed warranty repair. Should be fixed in a few hours .... Will post an update afterwards.

I have an 08 x5. I have had no problems with air out of those vents once I realized that there is a side to side adjustment as well as up and down. Move the handle on the vent left and right. You'll see air comes out well unless you have a blower or other problem.

UPDATE - Air Vents

The dealer found the final stage resistor, before the blower, needed replacement. In addition to the AC, they also found a leak in the rear differential transfer case. Could some one please explain what that means?

I'm assuming this is not normal for a 08 E70 4.8 with approximately 6K miles?

Technical, but this is what the differential is. Looks like differential fluid was leaking:

The differential is the mechanical component that spins both the left and right wheels, but lets them rotate at different speeds so that the vehicle can make turns. When a vehicle makes a turn, the outer wheel has to turn faster than the inner wheel, due to the difference in the length of the paths they take. The differential is located between the two wheels, and is attached to each wheel by an axle shaft. Four-wheel drive vehicles have a separate differential for each pair of wheels, connected through a transfer case.
Differential fluid provides lubrication to gears, bearings, shafts and other internal components. Heat, pressure and friction can slowly breakdown the additives in the differential fluid. In addition, small particles of metal and clutch material may come off as they wear and these particles can mix with the fluid. Fluids can also become contaminated with water.
