Extended Warranty
So, considering I easily take the car to 100k miles before the 6 years is up, what do you all think about the extended warranty? worth it or not? how many of you have it and what did you pay? |

I'd get it, if you are going to keep it to 100k. You will have more potential problems based on mileage than on age, IMO.

anyone else have any comments? How much would you owners have spent in the past on warranty replace items from 50k - 100k miles in their BMWs?

I have to honestly confess that there are so
many threads about "extended warranties" I'm not sure how much of a response you will get. The choice of course is a personal one. Some have elected to do so some have not. Doing a search might help you make an informed decision. Regards

I don't know if age has a bearing or not on this particular issue. I have been around a long time and have not purchased extended warranties on anything because, basically, they are a "crap-shoot" with the percentages being AGAINST you. HOWEVER, in having the option to purchase additional protection on my X5, I opted in for a multitude of reasons which I am not going to specifically state. Suffice it to say that most of you guys a fairly "with-it" in my observation and you can just about name your reasons for the protection. Just a thought......... :-)

Extended warranty and extended maintenance are ENTIRELY different. So don't let a dealer confuse you about the two.

Without going too deep into analysis paralysis -- if you have a good Indy shop/machanic you can trust after your warrantee is up, and their pricei s reasonable -- I'd forego the extended warrantee. But if you don't and your milage adds pretty quickly, I'd say go for it.

I discovered in shopping extended warranties that the "good ones" don't require you go to a specifically BMW dealer and here is the big 'BUT"_ but you must take them to a Certified Mechanic facility. Now, here in California (Land of Fruits, Nuts, and Illegal Aliens), there is such a thing as a "Certified Master Auto Mechanic and my independent, who is certified as such, can obtain all the items a regular BMW repair facility can get.
