I think unless you get the 4.8V8 X5 you don't get self-levelling rear suspension, it comes with the 3rd Row of Seats.
If you just get Sports Pack with out the option of 3rd Row Seats then you don't get it, you have to order 3rd Row Seats also if you get Adaptive Drive, that gives you the rear levelling as well.

Here is another question that interests me.
Ordered X535d Sports (June delivery) Also added third row seats and comfort seats. Funny thing is Sports pack included sports seats. Getting comfort seats removes these. Getting third row seats gets self leveling suspension in rear at least. So what is left from sports pack apart from bigger wheels and a few trim items. Price does not change one still has to pay for extra options. Would have thought changing seats would mean change in things included in sports package and therefore change in price. Been told by BMW in Austalia that you still get things from sports package, whihc I think is not possible especially when picking comfort seats. Any feedback would be great |

^ getting comfort seats after the sports package has always been a losing deal on the sports seats. They should give *some* kind of credit but they don't. You're paying $1k for comfort seats whether you have the base or sports seats to begin with. The biggest thing with the sports package in the US is the adaptive drive, which I believe is a separate option for you guys (I know it is in the UK, which comes as EDC & sports suspension separately). So do the math on what you end up actually getting and decide from there.

Sports Package
I presently have an 08 with the 3rd row seats. The seats were purchased only because I wanted the self leveling, I don't need the 3rd row seats. The vehicle is a work vehicle and a lot of "stuff" is carried in the back, hence the need for the self leveling suspension. I am intrigued by the sports package as I will be ordering another X5 in the fall, I would rather order the sports package (and will be getting the comfort seats as well), but I am concerend about the ride height (plus I occasionally tow a boat).
Does the sports package/suspension do anything to compensate for a heavier load? |

Yes you can have comfort seats & the normal sports pack but you have to do it via the dealer sales desk.

The biggest thing with Sport package is the EDC suspension and higher spring rates. In the US wel also get Adaptive Drive as part of Sport package which is also a big deal performance wise. Sport is an absolute must imo.
If you're towing anything heavy, the self-leveling suspension would help a lot I'd think. The Sport package won't do anything to help out in that regard. The springs will be of a higher rate, but that won't really make much difference relative to most tow loads. I'd check if the self-leveling suspension can somehow be added without the 3rd row. You guys sure it isn't standard in the diesel? |

So if I understand things correctly Sports Pack in Australia will still give you higher rated springs and EDC suspension? Self leveling suspension is then added to this combination with 3rd row seats. All sounds okay.
On other hand one loses out on seats when one goes up a level to comfort seats. So in effect we end up paying for both. As previuolsy stated you would think there would be some sort of conpensation for the replacement of the sports seats with comfort seats, or the option upgrade would be less when already opting for the sports pack in a 35d (no price difference with or without sports seats to go to comport seats) |

The option of sports suspension is heavier rated springs, swaybars and shocks. Next is self-levelling suspension on the rear only, and then the Adaptive drive option. This option lets you select via a button comfort mode or sports mode, sports mode tightens the suspension up by reducing body roll. I have found (this is my 3rd X5 with adaptive drive) that this option gives you the best driving comfort & stability. I drive every week on the beach to my beach house (30klm round trip on beach sand) and when the beach has been cut up by 10's of 4 wheel drives with deep ruts the the X5 just drives over them. The adaptive drive actually keeps the body level and lets the wheels go up & down absorbing all these deep ruts. Its quite amasing how smooth it makes the beach, its like bouncing a basketball, the ball travels up & down half a metre but your fingers don't move all that much. In my opinion Adaptive Drive out performs Sport Suspension by a long way. Back to comforts seats, I would rather pay the extra for comforts over sports seats anyday, the sports seats are to hard for long distance driving and do not have enough adjustments, also not having the perforated leather here in Qlds you stick to the seats to much so its a must have option for me. Yeh, the only thing here is when you buy 35d X5 and start putting all the options on it goes $60k in price!
