Visor clip here also... I don't see why it's not more popular? If it is too close to your headspace use the passenger visor.

Other vehicles have a bin in the roof but with our huge panaroof there wasn't much space for that.

Now that BMW has taken out the Smokers' package on the 3er as standard equipment, it's not out of the question that they do that to the X5. Which means you'd have the accessories tray in place of the ashtray/lighter for your sunglasses.

I thought all dealers gave the visor clip free. Mine did. It's a fairly convenient solution.

I hope not having a sunglasses holder wont deter you from purchasing the X. How did you do a test drive while on a deep sleep? Or were you in a deep sleep and dreaming of a test drive?
