The 20" OEMs on my 2008 4.8 sports have hit 16K and must be replaced before my next major trip. I don't worry about driving around town, but need good tires for two trips a year where I am on the open road (much of which is unpopulated) for 3-4K miles each trip.

I have done a search and read various threads here, but I can't sort out the technical talk from my particular needs. I want a better ride and much less noise than the Dunlops. I also don't like that during one of these long trips I could end up buying a regular tires to finish out the trip. Also, I have a spare.

The parts guy at the dealer said don't go with the Dunlops, that I should go with Bridestones and the price was okay. Then I asked him about Diamaris and he said they are the best and cost more like the Dunlops. But then I read here - http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-diamaris.html - and elsehwere that I need to worry about loadfactor. On these long trips, there are two adults with a 20 lb dog and the vehicle is completed loaded to cover various activities over 4-5 weeks. However, no towing and nothing on top.

I had 19" Diamaris on my 2004 4.v sport and liked the look of the thread - a big deal to my spouse - but want to think they were noisy.

Anyway, advice in lay terms would be appreciated.

Advice? Go with the Bridgestone Duelers HP Sport RFT. Less noise than the Dunlaps, better wear (by 5-10K depending on your driving style,) and are the run flats with the proper load rating. Oh yeah, cheaper too .

Thanks and I see from another thread that you did a better search that I did even though I monitored these things for a few months knowing this day was coming sooner rather than later.

All-season tires would be an advantage especially for my December trips. In terms of cornering, the biggest test I suppose is maybe hitting 90 mph on I-40 going around the Smokey Mountains near Asheville, NC.

I have Bridgestone Duelers HP Sport RFT from the beginning so I can't compare with any other. But I am very happy since I am on 25000km and still have at least another 15000 to go ...... Now its starting to make a little more noise...

p.s. already had it repaired once since it had a nail in it.... no problems...

Interestingly, the tires that BMW is putting on the X6M and X5M are the Bridgestones Dueler H/P Sport RFT. Those two models are the first M cars with RFTs. It makes me wonder if Bridgestones are better performers.

So would you prefer the Latitude Tour HP? The primary local tire store would charge me $900 more for these Michelins than the Bridestone Dueler HP Sport RFTs at the BMW dealer.

I would prefer non-RFT.....that's what I ultimately did after blowing through 2 sets of Dunlops. The Dunlops are great tires, but they get loud and are expensive. Very happy with my Vred's. See my earlier posts above.

hhhm3 is an unknown quantity at this point
I too am very happy with the Vredestein Sessantas.
The are non-rft, but they are very quiet smooth and super tractions in the rain/heavy rain and dry conditions.
I even thing they are better (in all aspects) than any of the high performance Z rated tires I had on other cars.
The Vred only cost me ~850 for 20" for all 4 tires.

Oh' if the looks and design is important to the wife, the Vred are the most unique and nicest design I seen.

But for road trip I would prefer the RFTs for hassle free of not having to be stuck on the side of the road for x amount of time to change tires or tire repair... and especially in the middle of the night or darkness. why take any risk or chances when family is in the vehicle...
I actually use my the OEM RFT tires on the OEM 19" rims for road trips and winter driving. Although i would think the Vred would out perform the OEM tire in the the snow or ice anyways (good compounds on the vred).

My dealer says that the BMW web shows Diamaris tires approved for the E70. I can't find the page in question so does anyone know where this is?
