Running Board damaged by??? Do you have this problem?

I know I am overweight, but I don't step on the running board in the rear of the car (since I'm the driver 99% of the time).

Car came out of the carwash on Sunday (I know it's still dirty, it's been raining everyday for the past month in StL). I noticed it right away when I walked up to the car after they finished washing the car.

It looks as if the braces underneath is pushing through the plastic covering? Those who have done the aluminum running board conversion, can you share with me what is under the plastic covering?

It almost looks like its cause by heat like the plastic is melting. I mentioned it at my service appt yesterday. The SA said he talked with the foreman in the shop and they haven't seen anything like this, so probably not covered under warrantee.

I just don't konw what caused this.

Very hard to tell from the grainy pics what the issue could be aside from scuffing of the plastic.
