New wheels and tires for X5

Hi

I have a 2008 X5 with the standard 18" wheels and Michelin tires. I am planning to upgrade to the BMW Double Spoke 239 21" wheels with the Dunlop tires. I have two questions around this:

1. I am getting a good deal on the tires and the tire shop told me that I would need to replace the pressure sensors if I mount new tires. Is that correct? If I do need to, then is it better to get BMW sensors or any after market sensors? Will the after market sensors function properly with iDrive's TPMS?

2. These are the BMW Double Spoke 239 21" wheels that I am looking to buy. Does anyone know of any good deals in US, for these wheels?

You should be able to reuse the pressure sensors but this entails breaking down your 18" wheels and tires.

I got my 239s from Ameritrades who is in CT. He often sells wheel/tire sets on ebay. Mine were perfect.

You should consider the fender flares as well. The 325s stick out a fair amount in the back without them.

Thanks for the information!
I did contact ameritrades few days back and he is currently not selling any wheels. The cheapest deal that I am getting for the wheels is about 3k and tires are about 2k. Did you use your existing pressure sensors? How much do the new ones cost?

Can you please tell me more about which fender flares have you put on your car?

the ones on eBay DOES INCLUDE the wheel arches. TPMS on 18" wheels should work fine with 21".

"You will get four OEM wheels BRAND NEW in original BMW packaging. This set includes the required wheel arch extensions you need with these wheels."

I believe the TPMS sold through Tire Rack is the same ones we have on ours (someone had posted it previously) -- that should save you some bucks if you decide to go with new TPMS instead of dismounting the tires off of your 18's to get the TPMS out of there.

TaMbALoLoNg is an unknown quantity at this point
It's gonna be worth the wait, when the 239's becomes more available.

Do you have any links for those Tirerack TPMS?
the ones that I see on Tirerack cannot be used in plae of OEMs...

I wish they were...those wheels are so gorgeous, but unfortunately not widely available and are pretty costly too.

The wheels I got came complete with wheels, tires, TMPS and center caps so I didn't have to reuse the TMPS. I'd advise you to do the same if you can since you will need to change back to your 18" in the winter.

Good to know that, but unfortunately I am not getting such a deal now. I did enquire about the TPMS and the OEM Beru TPMS which BMW uses are costing me about $200 from tirerack.com

I dont know much about wheels, but are 21" wheels not recommended to be used in winter?
